Public Policy Updates & Resources

From Washington, D.C. to Charleston, West Virginia, Philanthropy West Virginia advocates for effective government that advances the work of philanthropy and nonprofits in serving West Virginia’s citizens.

2021 POLICY PRIORITIES:

FEDERAL: For 2021, Philanthropy West Virginia has adopted initial federal policy priorities including:

  • Tax policy and practices that advances and encourages charitable giving for the benefit of West Virginia’s communities, citizens, and the organizations serving them can include, but not limited to permanent in action and expansion of a Universal Charitable Deduction (federal level),
  • IRA Rollover continuation with gifting for donor advised funds, and other opportunities identified,
  • Federal and state funds to support nonprofit survival and recovery due to the pandemic and economic downturn, 
  • Passage of a federal law and IRS/Treasury updates to implement the Come Home Award Program for foundations to implement new strategies to attract and retain young talent for our economy

STATE LEVEL:  On the state level for 2021, Philanthropy West Virginia is collaborating with multiple partners for the renewal and expansion of the WV Neighborhood Investment Program.  For details on the renewal and expansion, please visit the dedicated resource page here.
Our work is also focused on advancing opportunities to expand resources and financial support for our state’s nonprofits negatively impacted by the pandemic and economic downturn.
